Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 2026
Hey Dictionary is built to need as little of your data as possible. There are no accounts and no logins, and we don't ask for your name or email to use the Service.
What we store on your device
Your lookup history, your selected language, and your light/dark theme preference are saved in your browser's local storage. They stay on your device, aren't sent to us as personal profiles, and you can clear them at any time from within the app or by clearing your browser data.
Bot protection
To keep the Service available and prevent abuse, we use Cloudflare Turnstile. When you pass its check, a short-lived, signed cookie is set so you aren't challenged on every lookup. Turnstile is designed to verify that you're human without tracking you across sites.
Word lookups
The words and short phrases you look up are sent to a third-party AI provider (such as OpenAI or Anthropic) to generate an explanation, and the resulting definitions are cached on our servers so the same word loads instantly next time. We also keep an anonymous, short-lived count of recently searched terms to power the “Trending” list — this is not linked to you. Please avoid entering personal or sensitive information into the search box.
Changes & contact
We may update this policy as the Service evolves. For any privacy questions, reach out via uzu.works.
